This week I have two new Amigurumi crochet patterns. Mini Gang:

The other new pattern is "Four Seasons Birds":

This is a pattern for all four seasons: The Green Bird is for the spring. She comes with a pattern for little easter eggs. The Blue Bird is for the Summer and has a pattern for colorful flowers. The Orange Bird stands for Autumn and has a delicious candy corn pattern. The White Bird is for the winter. She comes with a cute Santa Hat and Christmas Tree.

Happy New Year

In 2011 I started publishing crochet patterns on Amazon, iTunes and Barnes&Noble . I'd like to come in contact with people who bought these and like to know their experience. I know already that patterns on the Kindle cannot be printed. I guess the Kindle is like "electronic paper". No reason to print...unless you use the Kindle program on your pc! I would recommend PC users to buy the PDF version on Etsy. Any feedback about the patterns on Amazon, iTunes and Barnes&Noble is more than welcome! Also if you like to write a review on any of these sites: I would be very grateful :)

I am working on a new pattern. It has birds and flowers, hopefully I can show photos soon.

Easy Scarf Free Crochet Pattern

Materials:The scarf can be made using any yarn you wish. Choose a hook size that matches the yarn.
- 5.00 mm hook
- Schachenmayr Ecologico Color; Aran Weight Yarn

Size:
90 inches long (include fringe) and 5.5 inches wide

US Crochet Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
st = stitch
sl = slip

Scarf: Working in back loops only.
Row 1: Ch 250, dc in fourth chain from hook, sc in next 246 chs, turn. (247)
Row 2-10: Ch 3 (count as one dc), dc in next 246 sts, turn. (247)
Row 11: Ch 3(count as one dc), dc in next 246 sts, fasten off. (247)

Fringe:
Cut 44 pieces of yarn, 12 inches long. Hold one strand of yarn fold it in half, use a crochet hook to pull it through the end of rows. There will be a little loop on one side, pull the yarn through that little loop to make a knot. You can trim the ends to whatever length you like.

Crocheted Carpet

My mother-in-law gave two big boxes filled with yarns. (Recycled yarns and leftovers). I used it to create this beautiful carpet. It's 160 x 110 cm.

I used a 19mm crochet hook to crochet approx 12 to 15 strands of yarn together. It's colourful and soft.

Halloween craft idea: Create your own Halloween Bag

For Halloween you can create your own treat bags. You can do this together with your child. First find a suitable box. I took a 12 can cola box, which was cut in half. (I made 2). Decorate the boxes with paper and cut outs. Many magazines have Halloween pumpkins on the cover. Ask your little boy or girl to make drawings and glue them on too. To make it sturdy cover it with clear tape. (This goes faster if you have wide tape). Make two holes on the side and attach a pipe cleaner to make a handle.

2) Super Chunky yarn (Sirdar Big Softie shade 0332, 2 balls of 50gm)

Tutorial to make Hair for an Amigurumi Doll

How to make beautiful hair. Part II

In this tutorial you can learn how to make the hair for a doll like in the photo below.

First you measure how long you want the hair to be. For this doll the hair is 12” (31 cm) long; from the end on the left side to the end on the right side (see picture 1). Wind the yarn loosely and evenly around a 6” piece of card board until the card is filled (see picture 2), then cut across one edge (see picture 3), repeat as needed.

Draw a line on your doll’s head, starting from her forehead all the way over her head to middle back of head (or use pins, 1st pin on middle of forehead, 2nd pin on middle top of head, 3rd pin on middle back of head).

Hold 4 strands of yarn together, fold in half, sew on the line you’ve drawn earlier on your doll’s head using back stitch, starting from forehead to middle back of head. (see pictures below)

Hold 18 strands of yarn in the front together (right & left side) but make sure they lie neatly next to one another, sew on 2 sides of the face as in pictures below.

Take 6 strands from these 18 strands on both sides and tie them together on the back of head.

Take the rest and tie together on the back of head with colorful yarns.

Amigurumi Free Basic Body Crochet Pattern

This is a pattern for the body of an Amigurumi doll. Skirt, jackets, hats and accessories are missing. Included are head, body, arms and legs. This is part of the Pink Little Lady pattern. I post this separate for all those who like to make a different doll using the basic pattern. The above doll was made by Lauren. She made an army of Anime Characters using this basic pattern.You can check them out on DeviantArt. They are great.

Pattern

This pattern can be made using any yarn you wish. Choose a hook size that matches the yarn.

Materials:

3.00 mm hook
4 ply yarn
Polyester fiberfill

Size:

The doll is about 4.5 inches/ 11.5 cm high

Abbreviations:

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

st = stitch

sl = slip

rnd = round

tog = together

dc = double crochet

Note:

This project is working in continuous rounds, do not join or turn unless otherwise stated. Mark first stitch of each round.

Leg (make 2):

Rnd 1: With feet color, ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook. (6)

How to choose crochet hook size and yarn for Amigurumi dolls?

3 to 8 inch Dolls: use 4 ply/ DK yarn with 3-3.25 mm hooks.

Big dolls: use Worsted Weight/ Aran or Chunky yarn with 4-5.5 mm hooks.

If you want to make a doll which is bigger than in the pattern, use a bigger hook and thicker yarn. Likewise for a smaller doll use a smaller hook and thinner yarn.

Below are the tables of the “Standard Yarn Weight System” and “Crochet Hook Conversion” which you can use as a guideline for the yarn and crochet hook.

Notes:

GUIDELINES ONLY: The above reflect the most commonly used gauges and needle or hook sizes for specific yarn categories.

I made a new Sunshine Girl and spent a lot of time on doing the hair. This time I used cotton yarn to make doll & hair. I sewed one yarn at a time for hair, and sewed them on both sides to make 2 pig tails. I think the eyes are a bit too big (used 7.5 mm because I did not have the 7mm.) and should change color of head at rnd 24 (rnds 24 - 28 should be the same color as hair)

Materials used: 3.00 mm hook and 4 ply or dk yarn

Size: wide 1.8 inches/ 4.5 cm, high 1.5 inches/ 4 cm

Abbreviations: ch = chain, sc = single crochet, st = stitch, sl = slip, rnd = round, tog = together

Hump (make 2):
Rnd 1: With red, ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook. (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12)
Rnd 3: Sc in each st around.

For first hump, join with sl st in first st. Fasten off.
For second hump, do not sl st in first st. Do not fasten off.

With top of the head facing, insert hook toward outer of head in free loops on rnd 6, draw the folded end through the stitch and pull the loose ends through the folded end, draw the knot up tightly. Add fringe from one side of head to the back of head and from here to the other side of head. Do not add fringe in the front (10 sts).

Finishing:

Sew eyes 6 sts apart between rnds 8-9 of head. With red embroider mouth.

This pattern can be made using any yarn you wish. Choose a hook size that matches the yarn.

For materials I used:

3.00 mm hook
4 ply yarn (cream, black and red)
Mohair yarn (red for hair)
Polyester fiberfill
Two 5 mm black beads for eyes or other eyes as desired
Tapestry needle
Sewing needle and thread for attaching eyes

Size: Little Witch is 4.5 inches/ 11.5 cm high

Abbreviations:

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

st = stitch

sl = slip

rnd = round

tog = together

Notes: This project is working in continuous rounds, do not join or turn unless otherwise stated. Mark first stitch of each round.

Leg (make 2):

Rnd 1: With black, ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook. (6)

Rnd 2: Sc in each st around, changing to cream in last 2 loops of last st.

Rnd 3-4: Sc in each st around.

For first leg, join with sl st in first st. Fasten off.

For second leg, do not sl st in first st. Do not fasten off.

Head and Body:

Rnd 1: Hold legs together with upper inner thighs together. Insert hook in the center on innermost thigh of first leg, pull out the loop from second leg, sc in same st (do not count this st just for connecting legs together), sc in next 5 sts on second leg (mark first st), sc in next 5 sts on first leg, changing to black in last 2 loops of last st. (10)

Rnd 2: (2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts) 2 times. (12)

Hair:

With Mohair yarn (red), cut 30 pieces of 6 “ (16 cm) long. For fringe, hold 1 strand of yarn, fold in half. With wrong side facing, insert hook in free loop of rnd 13, draw the folded end through the stitch and pull the loose ends through the folded end, draw the knot up tightly. Add fringe around.

Sew hat on head. For hair you can do the pigtails or braids as you wish.

Finishing:

Sew eyes 6 sts apart between rnds 10-11 of head. With red embroider mouth.

A lady asked for help with the Kai-Lan flower.

I drew this little diagram:

First petal: With red, ch 3, dc in first chain, ch 2, sl st in first ch (see diagram).

Make 4 more petals: ch 2, dc in first ch, ch 2, sl st in first ch. 4 times.
Only the first of those four is in the diagram: they are all the same.

Leave long end for sewing, fasten off.

You can use this little bag as a school pencil bag, for cosmetics or a handbag. Design your own bag by changing the colors or use patches, beads, flowers to decorate the bag. Below are two examples:

Cat bag crochet pattern

This pattern can be made using any yarn you wish. Choose a hook size that matches the yarn.

Materials:
1) 4.00 mm hook

Cute no? These are embroidered patches. It's Jazzy the Good Witch. You can put her on your bag or jeans. You iron them on. The plastic bottom has a glue which gets sticky when heated. Flower Hair Clips

Last weekend I made these flowers. They are beautiful and easy to make. My daughter wanted to give a present to her school friends so I made these flower hair clips. Each girl gets 2. The boys...will perhaps be a bit jealous!

To create the flowers I used a basic Flower Loom.

The idea I got from a Thai book. If you search the web you can find many blog posts on how to use a Flower Loom.

How to make beautiful hair. Part 1.

Making the hair look very beautiful can be a challenge. I use Mohair yarn for many dolls (Alice and most Jazzy dolls). For Dora the Explorer and Kevvy I used acrylic yarn. Mohair is very thin and very good for making hair. It is best to use the thinnest yarn as possible. Thinner yarn makes smaller knots and spreads better: the hair will not stand out. It is much more work, but the result is worth it.

I have made hair using the whole 4ply yarn (Fingering) and I have split the 4 ply yarn to thinner strands (see photos below).

The thinner strands use less yarn than the whole 4 ply yarn and it looks nicer too. When you use yarn which is smaller than the yarn for the doll, you can use a smaller hook to get the yarn through the stitches. You can read how to insert the hair on the head on EssHaych blog.

Sometimes I create a hair cap in the color of the hair. Do this when you cannot insert a lot of hair strands. The hair cap gives a full look and hides the bold spots. For the Pippi doll I could not use many strands: otherwise the braids would be very big. To hide the bold spots she has a red hair cap.

Instead of adding a hair cap you can also change the color of the head to the hair color. This I did with Jazzy the Mermaid and Nurse Jazzy. (This does not show on the photos below.)
