Big Tiger - Free Pattern


Size: Big Tiger is 29 inches/  74 cm tall (Standing, excluding tail and ears).

Materials:
1)     5.00 mm hook
2)     Chunky yarns : Orange = 300 g (432 meter/ 471 yards), Black = 165 g (238 meter/ 259 yards) and White = 160 g (230 meter/ 251 yards)
3)     Polyester fiberfill = 900 g
4)     Tapestry needle
5)     A wire brush (e.g. a pet slicker brush or a yarn indicator brush)

Note: This project is working in continuous rounds, do not join or turn unless otherwise stated.
              Mark first stitch of each round.

There are 2 ways to start amigurumi: 
  1. Magic ring foundation: You begin with an adjustable ring and then crochet the rows or rounds of your project on top of this ring. The finished piece will be a circle or spherical shape.
  2. Foundation Chain: Begin with chains and you will crochet the rows or rounds of your project on top of these chains. The first round will be an oval or rectangular piece.

Body and Head:   
Start with foundation chain (Rnd 1) this will be the bottom of the body then crochet up to top of the head. 
Rnd 1: With orange. Ch 27, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 24 chs, 3 sc in next ch;
             working in remaining loops on opposite side of chain, sc in next 24 chs, 2 sc in next ch.

Stuff hands and sew the opening close. Stuff arms, flatten first rnd and sew through both thicknesses. Sew arms to body with thumb towards front on rnd 72 of the Body.

Cheek (make 2):
Rnd 1: With white, ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook. (6)

Rnd 4: (2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts) around. (24)
Rnd 5-7: Sc in each st around, sl st in first st, fasten off.

Hair on cheek:
With white, wind the yarn loosely and evenly around a 2 inches (5 cm) piece of card board until the card is filled, then cut across one edge, repeat as needed. For hair, hold one strand of yarn, fold in half, with top of the cheek facing, insert hook through a stitch on rnd 1, draw the folded end through the stitch and pull the loose ends through the folded end, draw the knot up tightly. Add hair around on rnds 1, 3, 5, 7. Trim hair about 0.5” (1 cm) long, use a wire brush (e.g. a pet slicker brush or a yarn indicator brush) to brush hair.

Pin cheeks on side of face over rnds 78-86,  sew to head, stuff cheek before sewing the opening close.

Ear (make 2 each; black and white):
Working in rows.
Row 1: With white, ch 9, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 7 chs, turn. (8)
Row 2-6: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 7: Ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc in next 4 sts, sc next 2 sts tog, turn. (6)
Row 8: Ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc next 2 sts tog, fasten off. (4)

Matching sts, hold one white ear and one black ear tog, with white side facing you. With black, join with sl st in the end of row 1, ch 1, sc in same st, sc across to the other end of row 1, fasten off. (20)

Nose:
Rnd 1: With black, ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook. (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12)
Rnd 3: (Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st) around. (15)
Rnd 4-10: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 11: (Sc in next 3 sts, sc next 2 sts tog) around. Stuff a little bit. (12)
Rnd 12: Sc next 2 sts tog around, join with sl st to first st, fasten off.

Eye (make 2):
Rnd 1: With black. Ch 4, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch;

Finishing:
Position eyes and nose on face, sew them to face as in picture.

Pin ears on side of head over rnds 97-104 of head, sew them to head.


With black, embroider mouth.
